Microsoft Teams to get end-to-end encryption later this year

Though Microsoft was a bit slow compared to the Zoom app to join the race to offer video conference solutions, it has steadily got higher traction among corporates.

Now, Microsoft getting serious with security and announced to bring end-to-end encryption to 1:1 video calls later this year.

"Over the last year, we have gathered feedback from global customers, analysts, and the security community around particular industries and specific cases where end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for online collaboration might be important. To help support customer security and compliance obligations, Microsoft is planning to support E2EE for Teams 1:1 calls to provide additional options for conducting sensitive online conversations," Microsoft said.

Currently, the company relies on SharePoint encryption to offer secure transit for mails, screen sharing contents such as PPTs. Now, the video calls will be fully secured communication.
End-to-End encryption for Microsoft Teams will be arriving in the first half of 2021.

Also, Microsoft revealed that it securing the Teams apps from uninvited people entering the video conference. It has launched a new lobby setting available in Teams Meeting Options where only meeting participants who were explicitly invited to the meeting can join it directly.

In a related development, Redmond-based software giant is bringing Artificial Intelligence-powered predictive text completion for Microsoft 365 this month.

It will be similar to the Google 'Smart Compose' feature on Gmail. The AI-powered algorithm in the application will be able to understand the context of the sentence and predict the word, which makes sense and also grammatically correct.
