In India, National Science Day is celebrated every year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C V Raman on February 28, 1928.
Raman, the renowned scientist at the Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) received the Nobel prize in Physics in 1930. His Raman effect showed that there is a change in the wavelength of light that occurs when a light beam is deflected by molecules. This explains how the sky, though colourless, appears blue due to the scattering of particulate matter (present in the atmosphere) with the sunlight.
There are numerous applications and the Raman spectroscopy is used to analyze a wide range of materials, including gases, liquids, and solids. Highly complex materials such as biological organisms and human tissue
The main objective of Science Day is to bring awareness of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and other branches of knowledge among people, particularly for children to develop interest in cognitive thinking.
However, Science though comes off exciting for some, many dislike it, as it needs hours of concentration and normal learning processing is a bit mundane.
Times have changed now, the Augment Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) technology can make the learning of Science subjects not only fun, but also make sure children understand the concepts clearly.
Apple iPads and iPhones come with the most powerful A-series chipsets that support and play AR/VR apps smoothly for hours. Here are some of the best applications on Apple App Store.
Froggipedia, Brainapse and Plantale
All three--Froggipedia, Brainapse, and Plantale are developed by India-based Designmate (I) Pvt. Ltd for Apple iPad.
Froggipedia offers immersive, interactive, powerful constructive learning concepts, particularly Biology. Users can understand the life cycle and intricate anatomical details of a frog.
In Brainapse, users can explore the anatomy, structure and functions of the human skull and brain using AR and explains the evolution of the human brain and its working.
On the other hand, Plantale app, as the name suggests, it helps students understand the growth stages of the plant from a simple seed and discover how the plant reproduces to form this seed and learn all about the anatomy and morphology of all plant parts with a lot of ease and precision with AR.
Science AR (Developed by Daniel Genkin)
Science AR offers 3D models of experiments for a better understanding of science, particularly related to Chemistry. It is adaptive and can be scaled to any device with a camera, e.g. phone, tablet, desktop, or laptop. "By creating a real-world experience effect, it turns lessons into memorable and fun interactive sessions," the company said.
Big Bang AR (Developed by CERN-European Council for Nuclear Research in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture)
As the name suggests, it offers interactive lessons on the formation of the stars, our solar system, and the planet Earth. With AR, users can enjoy immersive experiences while unraveling the primordial mystery of the early universe in space and watch events unfold around you, in your own physical environment.
Galileo: AR Physics (developed by Davide Fiorino)
It offers articles covering various topics from mechanics to nuclear physics. Articles include images, animations, 3D models, and sometimes a little equation.
Also, children can get a better understanding of physics with Augmented Reality. Users can place virtual experiments and animated 3D models on you table and explore them by moving around.
KS1 Science for Kids -(developed by Tappity Pvt Ltd)
It offers more than 200 science lessons, activities, and stories in a curriculum designed for kids ages 4-10. Additionally, children can play the quiz-like games with 1000+ science questions and also access thousands of interactive science videos.
Also, Apple offers iTunes U, an app with educational courses. Educational institutions around the world can subscribe to this service to offer interactive lessons on numerous topics. Also, teachers can give assignments and assess children individually.
