After Xiaomi and Motorola, Oppo has teased its own true wireless charging tech for handsets during the on-going Mobile World Congress event in Shangai (February 23-25).
In the teaser video posted on YouTube (below), Oppo shows its new Oppo X 2021 phone with a rollable display getting charged when it is lifted from the charging pad. It indicates that the device can draw electric power from multiple sides mid-air but the range is limited to 10cm.
In the Xiaomi teaser, the company showed a user walking in the living room talking on the phone whilst it gets charged. It added that even if there is an obstacle like a lamp or cupboard won't be able to disrupt the charging speed (5W max).
However, it should be noted that the Mi Air Charger is quite big compared to Oppo's alternative, which by the way offers a maximum charging speed of 7.5W.
This innovation was very much needed in the smartphone industry. Lately, we are seeing only incremental upgrades every year without any creative value-added features.
With more widespread availability, wireless air charging technology can soon be seen on lower-end phone segment just like we see 5G capability on mid-range phone Realme Narzo 30 Pro, which costs just Rs 16,999.
