Good end to the innings from New Zealand but the damage was already done up front with that 175-run opening stand. Travis Head (109) marked his return from injury with a hundred on his World Cup debut.

David Warner (81) scored at a quick-rate too while captain Pat Cummins (37 off 14 balls), Glenn Maxwell (41 off 24 balls) and Josh Inglish (38 off 28 balls) also chipped in with handy knocks.

Glenn Phillips (3/37) was the sole bright spot for New Zealand, while Trent Boult (3/77) struck thrice in his final over to ensure Australia don't get to the 400-run mark.

New Zealand will need to put up a strong batting performance to chase this down.

What a humdinger of a game we've been treated too as it's the highest aggregate score (745) in an ODI match between Australia and New Zealand.

The Kiwis got off to a good solid start and nearly pulled off an astonishing chase but ultimately fell agonisingly short.

Rachin Ravindra (116) led the way with a scintillating century while James Neesham (58 off 39 balls) nearly pulled off a miracle but it's the Australian players who celebrate.

Adam Zampa (3/74) was once again key with the ball, picking up important wickets while captain Pat Cummins (2/66) also landed timely blows, including the wicket of Ravindra.

The win sees Australia consolidate fourth spot as their tied on points (8) with New Zealand who sit above them in third position.

On how he is feeling) Nice to be back, nice to be contributing. Very close (game) in the end. Was a hell of a game. (On his preparation) Only had a couple of hits. Little bit like the WTC, where I had a few weeks off. Have a few bruises that I can definitely strap up over the next couple of days.
