Hello and welcome to our live blog from match 18 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023!

The mighty Australia take on a wounded Pakistan who are looking to bounce back after their humbling defeat against arch-rivals India.

Australia themselves haven't had it all going their way at CWC 2023, starting their campaign with back-to-back defeats before getting their first win of the tournament.

Both teams need the win today but only one will walk away from Bengaluru with the points. We should be in for an intense battle at Bengaluru!

Here's a look at where both teams stand on the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Points Table

Pakistan are in the top-four while Australia find themselves languishing in the bottom half and have quite some work to do in order to reach the semi-final spots.

Toss: Pakistan win toss, opt to bowl!

Australia vs Pakistan Playing XIs

Australia (Playing XI): David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (w), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood.

Pakistan (Playing XI): Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (w), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf.

One change for Pakistan as Usama Mir replaces Shadab Khan

We will bowl first. The pitch looks really good. We have had a couple of good sessions. We are hoping to do well. We need to do well in batting. We will try our best. Shadab is not playing. Usama comes in.
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain)

Pat Cummins is happy with the balance and energy within his side as they name an unchanged Playing XI

We would have had a bowl as well. The energy was awesome even though they had a big partnership. The intent from our guys was excellent. The way we played against Lanka, we should do the same. The same. Everyone good to go.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain)

Pitch Report from the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Ian Bishop and Shane Watson in their pitch report point out that there's some gloriously sunshine in Bengaluru today!

Dimensions: 76 m straight, square almost equidistant (63m and 64m).

Pitch: Looks like a really nice surface. There's a really nice grass cover. It's rock hard, really good base to this surface, so the ball is gonna zip through for the fast bowlers very nicely.

There's not going to be much purchase for the spinners at all. Deception is going to be their friend tonight. The last two nights, there's been a lot of dew on the ground, that's definitely going to be a factor.

Cornered Tigers wait on wounded Kangaroos!

Sitaraman Shankar points out that Australia are used to turning up for ICC tournaments and finding themselves in the semis with minimal sweat; when Pakistan get there, it is often by taking the scenic route.

Time for the national anthems!

The teams line-up on the field for the national anthems. We have Pakistan's first followed by Australia.

ICYMI, which we have to commend you on if you have, The King scored a century yesterday!

Virat Kohli sent the crowds into a frenzy last night as he finished the game with a 'six' to seal victory for India and also a 78th International Ton for himself!

Here's a look at all the records broken by Kohli during his century vs BAN last night!

All set for 'take off' at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru!

David Warner and Mitchell Marsh walk out to open the batting for Australia. Remember, the Aussies need a win as another defeat will leave them with a mountain to climb in their hopes of making the semis.

Shaheen Afridi has the new ball and he himself will be looking to bounce back after a string of poor performances for Pakistan.

Over 1: Australia 7/0

0.6 - No run, full onto the stumps and Marsh taps it to point.

0.5 - SIX! Marsh gets off the mark in style as he meets the full delivery with a beautiful lofted drive to send it flying over long-off.

0.4 - No run, appeals for caught behind now from Shaheen but no one else is interested as Marsh didn't seem to make any contact when looking to flick.

0.2 - No run, fuller now from Shaheen and Warner looks to drive but is beaten.

0.1 - No run, review! This is a bit of a desperate review from Pakistan as Warner is cramped for room against the back of length delivery and cops it on the pads.

It looked high and replays also confirm that there's a big edge first so Pakistan lose one review! That's really early in the game to throw away a review.

Pakistan need 368 runs to win!

It's been a run-fest at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Australia got off to a flyer with both openers taking the Pakistan bowlers to the cleaners. Pakistan were poor with the ball and even poorer in the field with David Warner dropped on 10.

Warner (163) and Mitchell Marsh (121) put on a 259-run opening stand before Pakistan could finally get the breakthrough though Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Shaheen (5/54) was the only effective bowler for Pakistan and he rightly got his reward, finishing with a World Cup five-wicket haul!

Australia failed to really get going after losing their openers and Pakistan will take heart from that as they hope to chase down this massive total.

Birthday boy Mitchell Marsh is quite happy with that innings

Very nice birthday present, I feel like I have played a lot of cricket on my birthday and never got over 10. Nice to contribute, that partnership with Davey was awesome. We know this can be a high-scoring ground, I have played here a lot, I have missed out a lot, it was nice to cash in today. Pakistan bowled pretty well in the powerplay, we sort of cashed in later. Probably would have liked a few more, but I thought Pakistan bowled really well. Our communication and connection today as a partnership was fantastic. There was a little period they bowled quite well, especially their spinners, we tried to take it deep, we knew that our time would come. Davey was fantastic, awesome fun to have that partnership with him. I tend not to celebrate too hard, there was a fair bit of emotion on that one today, World Cups are always special. Hopefully we get another win on the board. There's certainly enough in the wicket, hopefully we can get some swing and put them under pressure with early wickets.
Mitchell Marsh (121 off 108 balls)

Adam Zampa [5.0-0-24-0] comes back into the attack.

Australia win by 62 runs!

A terrific all-round performance from Australia but Pakistan have very little positives to take away from that game. The batting was decent but no one stood up and played a game-changing knock on what was a beautiful batting surface.

Openers Imam (64) and Shakeel (70) provided a base but couldn't convert their starts into centuries like their counterparts as Australia kept chipping away at the wickets.

Adam Zampa (4/53) was sensational with the ball as he not only contained the runs but also picked up important wickets including that of the Paksitan captain Babar (18) and Rizwan (46).

The only positive for Pakistan will be Shaheen Afridi's fifer (5/54) but there's a lot of soul-searching that they'll have to do after back-to-back crushing defeats.

Australia meanwhile are maintaining their charge up the Points Table with back-to-back victories.

Babar Azam is still quite unhappy about that David Warner drop when he was still batting on 10

We were not up to the mark with the ball. And if you drop the catch of someone like Warner, he won't spare you. This is a big scoring ground, margin of error is very less. Whole credit to fast bowlers and spinners for the way we pulled it back in last few overs. Just tried to hit the length and hit the stumps. Message was simple - we can do it, we've done it in the past. Ball came on well under lights. Couldn't get big partnerships in the middle overs. Need to be better in the first 10 overs with the ball, and better in the middle overs with the bat.
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain)

Pat Cummins commends Marsh and Warner for setting the tone for the game!

Great win. Always pretty tough playing here at Chinnaswamy but good win. Set the tone (those two - Marsh and Warner) of how we want to play our cricket. That's the thing sometimes in ODI cricket. You get one breakthrough and sometimes it's hard for the new batter. Saw Stoin coming in, hit the pitch hard and provide the breakthrough. Zampa showed his class. He's a real wicket-taker for us in the middle. Have a 3-4 day break, need to keep up the benchmark from the last couple of games.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain)
