Hello and welcome to our live coverage!

South Africa are looking to end their semifinal curse but they have formidable opponents challenging them today as they take on the record five-time World Champions Australia.

The venue for today's clash is the iconic Eden Gardens, however, ominous clouds are looming over Kolkata threatening to play spoilsport.

Weather Update: Covers have been taken off at the Eden Gardens!

The covers have been on at the Eden Gardens with the threat of rain looming but there's a positive update from the venue as they covers have now been taken off. We're still on schedule with the Toss coming up in 10 mins.

Pitch Report and Conditions at the Eden Gardens

There's a 36% chance of rain reports Pommie Mbangwa, he points out that the dimensions are 65 m square boundaries, 75 m straight boundaries, which shouldn't be difficult to clear.

This is the same wicket that was used for the England vs Pakistan match. The spinners had a good time bowling in that game. Spin will win, reckons Mathew Hayden. He says it's going to be tough to score runs as the spinners will get more assistance in the second innings.

Captain winning the toss should bat first despite the overcast conditions, says Mbangwa.

Toss: South Africa win the toss, opt to bat!

One change for the Proteas as they opt for an extra spinner with Shamsi replacing Ngidi

We will bat first. I am not a hundred percent. Not something I really dreamt of (captaining his country in a World Cup). We have come against a team like Australia in the semi-final. We did get a message from them (South Africa's rugby winning team) this morning, means a lot to me and the team, there's a game to focus on. Yes, we did speak about it (the semifinal jinx) but very important to stay in the present. Need to stick to our processes. Got one change, Shamsi is in for Ngidi.
Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain)

Two changes as expected for the Aussies as Maxwell and Starc return with Stoinis and Abbott making way

We would have batted first as well. But it is overcast and hopefully there's some swing early on. They play pretty similar style, unfortunately they have won a last few, we are due. We have been in these positions before. We have a lot of experience. We were not up to our best in those couple of games. But guys have been positive in the last seven games. Two changes for us. Stoinis and Abbott are out. Maxwell and Starc are in.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain)

What a knock from David Miller who became the first South African Men's player to score a hundred in a World Cup Knockout

Really big (importance of this knock.) Glad to get the hundred, but we want to win at the end of the day. Helped the team to score a decent score with those partnerships. Expected these conditions at the start of the match, but we were on the back foot after four down in the powerplay. Managed to put up a couple of partnerships (with Klaasen and Coetzee), think we fought hard. It's about watching every ball and staying in the moment, trusting your preparation. It's one-ball-at-a-time. We need to put them under pressure in the powerplay by taking wickets. It's about using the conditions, bowling in the right areas.

Australia win by 3 wickets!

It was a low-scoring thriller but the record five-time winners of the tournament flexed their championship pedigree as they edge the Proteas whose wait for a maiden World Cup final appearance continues.

Head (62) provided a solid start alongside Warner (29) but the South Africa spinners landed heavy blows in the middle overs to put pressure on the Aussies.

Smith (30) and Inglis (28) put up a fighting 37-run stand to provide some stability in the chase but it was the captain Cummins (14*) who alongside Starc (16*) carried the team over the finish line.

The Aussies now have a few days to prepare now before they descend into the cauldron at Ahmedabad to take on the home team India in the World Cup Final on Sunday.

Travis Head wins the Player of the Match award for his important contribution with both bat and ball!

Hard to unpack all of that. Tense finish, amazing game. (The surface) We knew how it was going to play. Having had three or four days here, you go to bed and think about it. The wickets have been unbelievable, haven't seen much spin but we knew it was going to be a grind. (On the broken hand) Thought I wasn't going to be here, just want to contribute for Australia. (The ball to bowl out Klaasen) Straight as they come. I was under the pump, not sure how it got through. Seeing the wicket, was prepared to bowl a few overs. Always keen. We've had that positive approach, trying to get ahead of the rate. Disappointed to get out how I did, that's the match-up for me but it wasn't to be. (Facing India in the Final) Unbelievable attack. Never dreamed of being in a World Cup final against the team of the competition so far.

Bavuma says de Kock will go down as 'one of the greatest in South African cricket' as he retires from the ODI format

Cannot put it into words, first of all congratulations to Australia. Good luck to them in the final. They played really well today. Our character came through today. We should a lot of resilience. The way we started with the bat and the ball was the telling point, that's where we lost the game. The conditions combined with the quality of their attack was it, they really put us under pressure. You're always going to struggle to put up a competitive total when you're 24/4. We were gaining some momentum when Miller and Klaasen were out there but unfortunately he couldn't carry on a bit longer. Miller's innings was superb, really highlights the character of the entire team, it was extraordinary to do that in such a pressure situation and in a world cup Semi-final. They got 70-odd in the first 10 and that really allowed the rest of the guys to settle. Markram and Maharaj were fantastic and they really put them under pressure. We had chances, tough chances that we put down, it could've been a bit close had we held on to them. As a young guy, he really was the warrior for us, there wasn't much happening for the seamers then but for him to come around the wicket and to take the wicket of Smith was incredible. He was cramping but he still wanted to keep bowling. Quinton would've probably wanted to end his career on a different note, despite the result I think he'll remember his time. He'll go down as one of the greatest in South African cricket.
Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain)

Cummins says it's going to be special to lead the team out for the World Cup final in Ahmedabad!

I think it was easier out there than sitting in the dugout. Nerve-racking couple of hours but it was good to get the result. Wasn't expecting Starc and Hazlewood to bowl so much early. We knew it was going to spin later on but there was a bit of cloud cover so wasn't too disappointed about bowling first. We talk a lot about our fielding, probably wasn't up to standard at the start of the tournament but we were fantastic today. Specially Warner who's 37. Travid Head was the man today, to take that crucial wicket in the middle overs. Inglis played that beautifully, he looked in total control out there, especially against two quality spinners. Few of us have played in a final before, couple of other guys in a T20 World Cup, the stadium is going to be packed, mostly going to be one sided but it's about embracing it. 2015 World Cup was one of the highlights of my career, never thought I'd be here playing another World Cup final in Mumbai.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain)
