Sadly, Delhi's air quality has been the main focus for this clash as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka clash in match 38 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

The toxic air condition in Delhi has seen Sri Lanka cancel its training on Saturday, November 4 after air pollution reached dangerous levels with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovering above the 400-mark. However, we're still set to go ahead with the game today as neither team requested a change in venue.

We would field first, looks like a very good surface. There was a lot of dew when we practiced. There are a lot of expectations but we couldn't fill up. We have two more games and we would like to do well. We have to be technically sound and also mentally sound. We have one change - Mustafizur is not fit enough and Tanzim Shakib comes in his place.

Mathews spends lots of time pleading his case but Bangladesh refuse to withdraw their appeal and he has to ultimately walk.

It was a first innings marred by controversy as Angelo Mathews became the first international cricketer to be 'Timed Out'.

However, Charith Asalanka (108) dazzled in the middle as he brought up his second ODI century to help Sri Lanka post 279.

Pathum Nissanka (41) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (41) also played handy knocks as did Dhananjaya de Silva (34) who shared an impressive 78-run partnership with Asalanka.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib (3/80) was expensive but finished as the highest wicket taker for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh will fancy themselves to chase this down but Dilshan Madushanka has been in red hot form and he'll be eager to do some early damage and shred their plans.

Sri Lanka's centurion Asalanka says the Mathews dismissal is 'not good' for the spirit of the game

It’s always good feeling when you are getting a hundred and I’m feeling happy now. (On Mathews' timed out dismissal) My point of view it’s not good for the spirit of the game. After that, Dhananjaya came and we had a good partnership. I’m loving to have a partnership with Dhananjaya because he is a right-hander and I’m a left-hander and he always scores quickly. Credit should go to the pitches, because we can hit the ball through the line. When I was batting, I was looking for 300 but unfortunately, I got out in the 49th over. But, I think we have got enough.

Bangladesh win by 3 wickets! 

Bangladesh seal the win and the two points that will help them in their quest to qualify for the Champions Trophy.

The 169-run stand between Shakib Al Hasan (82) and Najmul Shanto (90) took the game away from Sri Lanka despite a good start from Dilshan Madushanka (3/69) getting rid of both openers early.

Angelo Mathews (2/35) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/44) made things interesting with some quick wickets in the end but it was too little too late as Bangladesh held on for the win.

The win sees Bangladesh leapfrog Sri Lanka on the table to take seventh spot. That puts them in the direct qualification spot for the Champions Trophy with one game left to play.

They are two important players (Mendis and Samarawickrama), lucky to get those two wickets., There wasn't much for the bowlers, we bowled really well upfront. Spinners kept it tight. Both the spinners bowled really well. Bowling wins us more matches, fast bowlers were bowling really well up to the World Cup. We couldn't live up to our expectations but we knew that we can fight back, we had that mentality. We kept on believing and we kept on coming back and today it paid off. The ground dimension helped as well, the shorter boundary, there was a lot of pace on the ball, so I just had to use the pace, luckily it came off and from there on I never looked back. (Best performance came a little late?) I'd agree with that, we could have been consistent, that's one disappointment.

Charith played a brilliant knock. But we were 30-40 runs short. Happy that some good young players coming through, and happy we have shown some promise in this tournament. In the future we'll have a good team. We had injuries to main players, also did some mistakes. Had we played better cricket, we would've had a better chance. It's very disappointing - when Angelo came to the crease. There were 5 second left. Then he found out strap of the helmet came off. It's disappointing umpires couldn't step in and make correct decision.

Shakib Al Hasan has no regrets for doing something within the 'laws of the game'

When I won toss, didn't have any hesitation to bowl. We've trained here and know there's a lot of dew. It was a very good partnership, and would've loved to finish it off. One of our fielders came to me and said if you appeal now it'll be out. Then I appealed and umpire asked me if I'm serious. It's in the laws. I don't know it's right or wrong. I had to take decision to make sure my team wins. Right or wrong, there will be debates. That helped. I'm 36 and fight doesn't come so easily.
