Pitch Report and Conditions at Ahmedabad!

Ravi Shastri in his assessment of the Pitch and Conditions at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad says, "Pitch number five. Same wicket that was used for India vs Pakistan. It's different from that one because it's been left open for quite a long time. It looks very dry, not much rolling. Looks patchy especially in the areas where spinners will land the ball. I expect it to turn a bit. Dew is uncontrollable. If there's no dew, you could be in trouble. Batting first, getting runs on the board is premium. But India won't be too bothered either way."

Boom Boom Bumrah says it's important to stay in the moment ahead of this crucial game!

Very important to stay focused and do the job. The atmosphere is great, the family is always going to be there. We are always going to get support when we play at home. But what is important is to do a job for India and stay in the moment.
Jasprit Bumrah

Time for the Toss!

Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins have exchanged team sheets in the middle and are now ready for the toss. What will the winning captain choose today? Stay tuned for all the updates.

Toss: Australia win the toss, opt to bowl!

No changes for the 'Baggy Greens' as they name the same Playing XI from the semi-final

We are gonna have a bowl first. Looks like a dry wicket. Dew is a factor. It gets better to bat on. Tough start to the tournament, haven't really put a foot wrong ever since. It's all set up perfectly. We've played these guys a lot. Same team as the semi-final.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain)

No changes for India too as Rohit Sharma says he would've batted first

I would have batted first. Looks a good pitch, big game, put runs on the board. It's going to be amazing, everytime we play here, the crowd come out in large numbers. The biggest occasion in the cricketing event. We have to stay nice and calm. It's a dream come true to be captaining the team in the final. I know what lies in front of us. We need to play well and get the result. You got to make the right decisions on the field. That's something we've done consistently in the last 10 games. We are playing the same team.
Rohit Sharma (India Captain)

All set for the start!

The Aussies are into their final team huddle before the game as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill walk out to open the innings for India. They'll be looking for a quick start as has been the tactic for India all through this World Cup campaign.

No surprises from Australia as Mitchell Starc is handed the new ball to open the attack.

Australia need 241 runs to win!

A solid bowling performance from Australia as they drove home the advantage of winning the toss by sticking to some excellent bowling plans to bowl India out for the first time in this tournament.

Rohit (47 off 31 balls) got India off to a typical quick start but Starc (3/55) struck early to get rid of Gill (4) and take away the momentum.

Maxwell (1/35) got rid of Rohit in the 10th over and Cummins (2/34) sent back Shreyas Iyer (4) in the very next over to put India on the back foot.

KL Rahul (66 off 107 balls) and Virat Kohli (54 off 63 balls) stitched together a fighting 67-run partnership but no other batter could emulate the efforts of those two.

Cummins landed the heavy blow when he sent Kohli packing in the 29th over and Hazlewood (2/60) then opened his account to get rid of Jadeja (9) cheaply.

Rahul was done in by an absolute Jaffa from Starc and Suryakumar (18) failed to put up much of a fight as Hazlewood struck again.

India desperately need early wickets now to put pressure onto Australia who will fancy their chances of chasing down this total with not too many runs on the board.

It's a slow pitch with some balls sticking to the surface but if dew sets in later in the night it should favour the batters considerably.

Mitchell Starc says it's not an easy wicket to bat on!

You can always plan for things, the way we contributed with the ball is fantastic first up and now out there (need to do the job) with the bat. There is not a whole heap of help for the seam bowlers and swing bowlers, was trying to do a few diff things, vary the pace a little bit. Patty (Cummins) and Josh (Hazlewood) were outstanding and obviously a little bit of reverse at the back end. Hopefully we restricted them to enough (runs). We bowled second here against England and it was a little dewy, the wicket (today)is a little bit dry and hopefully the dew comes in and we don't see any reverse in the second innigs, Not an easy wicket to bat on, the easiest time to bat perhaps is against the hard new ball and there are runs to be scored and it is not going to be easy, but it is what you ask for, it is a world cup final. What more can you ask for!
Mitchell Starc (3/55)

All set for the start!

Rohit Sharma has his team in a huddle on the field as David Warner and Travis Head walk out to open the innings for Australia.

India need early wickets here as Jasprit Bumrah takes the new ball to open the attack.

Australia win a record-extending sixth World Cup title!

A flawless performance from Australia as they take over the field at the Narendra Modi stadium in wild celebrations.

India started the run chase with a bang as Bumrah and Shami grabbed three early wickets to reduce Australia to 47/3 inside the first seven overs.

However, a 192-run fourth-wicket partnership between Head and Labuschagne just took the game away from India.

Head was in imperious form as he smashed a World Cup century scoring 137 runs off just 120 balls. Labuschagne played the role of an anchor to perfection, scoring a fighting half-century with 58 runs off 110 balls.

Fittingly, it was Maxwell who had the joy of scoring the winning runs after his incredible exploits against Afghanistan.

Travis Head joins an illustrious list as he's named the Player of the Match for his stunning century!

Never expected this, not in a million years, truly an exceptional day. Lot better than sitting on the couch at home. Really glad to contribute, the first twenty balls I played gave me a lot of confidence and yea I was able to carry through. The way Mitch Marsh came out and took the game on set the tone, we knew the wicket may get tough. Was a great decision to bowl first after winning the toss, it paid dividends. Nice to be a part of it and play a role in all of that. He’s (Rohit Sharma) probably the unluckiest man in the world now. Was great to hold on to that catch, who knows he could’ve probably got a hundred if not more. (On joining the list of centurions in WC finals) Nice list to join, nice to be here, nice to contribute. It’s going to be a nice couple of days, looking forward to it.

Virat Kohli wins the Player of the Tournament award!

A rather glum looking Virat Kohli walks onto the podium to pick up the Player of the Tournament award!

The Indian no. 3 batter finished as the highest run-scorer of the tournament with an incredible 765 runs from 12 games.

Rohit Sharma credits Head and Labuschagne for taking the game away from India with their partnership

The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets. When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne for putting us out of the game, but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse. We didn't put enough runs on the board. Credit to those two guys in the middle for putting up an outstanding partnership.
Rohit Sharma (India Captain)

The Indian players walk up to the podium to pick up their runners-up medals.

Time for the Aussies to pick up their World Cup winners medals!

I think we saved our best for last. We have been batting first pretty much for whole tournament and we thought it is a good night to chase down the target. Didn't really spin as much as we thought either. The boys were fantastic, we got an aging side and still everyone is throwing themselves on the field. We thought 300 might have been tough but achievable on that wicket, really chuffed with 240. Magnificent. Marnus with a cool head and Travis does what he does on the biggest stage, showed a lot of character. The selectors have backed him in and it is a big risk that we took and it paid off. I was pretty happy throughout the bowling innings. You look around and it is a special moment no matter whatever happened tonight. You gotta go and win the World Cup, you can't wait for it to happen. This year will be remembered for a long, long time and we had a lot of success over the winter and this one peaks it all. At the top of the mountain.
