Toss: Sri Lanka win the toss, opt to bowl!

One change for Sri Lanka as Dhananjaya de Silva makes way for Dusan Hemantha

We are going to bowl first. I think the pitch will be better for batting in the second part. Everyone did their best in the last few games. Hopefully they will continue to do the same today. One change, Dhananjaya de Silva is not playing, Hemantha is playing.
Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka Captain)

Rohit Sharma says it's a proud moment to lead the team at the ground where he learned everything about cricket!

I would've batted first. Good pitch and some assistance at start. Under lights, it will be nice for our seamers to bowl. Great honour to captain India at the World Cup where I've grown up playing. As a team, we thrive on getting better however way we can. Obviously, important for us to not get carried away and it's important to stay balanced. We're playing the same team.
Rohit Sharma (India Captain)

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will both be in the spotlight in the first innings

'King Kohli' as he's come to be called by fans is on the cusp of matching the 'Master Blaster's' record of 49 ODI Centuries! To match Tendulkar's record at his home ground of Wankhede would be something special. Not to mention, Tendulkar himself will be in the stands after the unveiling of his statue yesterday.

Rohit Sharma meanwhile is walking out for the first time as the Indian Team's Captain at his home ground. Not to forget, he's been in great form so far at the World Cup, leading the scoring charts for India with 398 runs from six games.

Time for the national anthems!

Two legends of the game from both nations in the form of Sachin Tendulkar and Muttiah Muralitharan precede the teams on their way out.

Sachin was honoured by a giant statue at his home ground yesterday, with his lofted straight drive cast in bronze, placed in the gap between the Sachin Tendulkar Stand and the Vijay Merchant Pavilion.

All set for the start!

It was emotional for Rohit Sharma at the national anthem but the 'Hitman' now walks out alongside the elegant Shubman Gill to open the innings for India. Both have been in fluent form at the World Cup and will be keen to get off to a good start.

Sri Lanka will open the attack with Dilshan Madushanka who has been lethal with the new ball. He's been getting good swing at the start and they'll be hoping he strikes early again here.

17.6 - WICKET! Rajitha c Shubman Gill b Shami 14 (17)

FIFER FOR SHAMI! He draws a thick outside edge that flies towards Gill who takes a safe catch at second slip! It's Shami's second five-wicket haul at this tournament and his third overall across World Cups. He is now also the highest wicket taker in World Cups for India!

17.5 - 2 runs, full onto the pads and Rajitha flicks past silly short leg.

17.4 - No run, again Shami beats the inside edge as Rajitha looks to drive.

17.3 - No run, full onto the stumps and Rajitha defends.

17.2 - No run, beaten! Rajitha looks to drive again but is beaten past the inside edge.

19.3 - No run, flatter onto the stumps as Madushanka blocks it out.

19.2 - No run, tighter line from Jadeja as Madushanka defends.

19.1 - FOUR! Tossed up outside off and Madushanka drives it through the gap at cover.

Spin from both ends now as Ravindra Jadeja, Left arm orthodox, comes into the attack.

India win by 302 runs!

What a performance by the pace trident of India. Mohammed Shami (5/18) was the outright star of the show as he grabbed his third fifer at a World cup and becomes the leading WC wicket-taker for India.

The massive victory also means India become the first team to qualify for the semifinals at CWC 2023.

Mohammed Siraj (3/16) was unplayable at times as was Jasprit Bumrah (1/8) who sparked things off by striking with the very first ball of the innings.

The highest score for Sri Lanka came from Kasun Rajitha (14) with five batters walking back on duck.

India become the first team at CWC 2023 to book their spot in the Semi-Finals!

The wishes are pouring in for Team India!

Mohammed Shami is named the Player of the Match for his stunning performance!

Shami finished with 5/18 on a record-breaking night for him as he becomes only the second bowler to grab a third fifer at the ODI World Cup.

He also becomes India's all-time leading wicket-taker at ODI World Cups with 45 wickets in just 14 matches.

I want to first thank Allah - all the hard work we are putting in, the rhythm we have found, it's because of that that you are getting to see this storm (on the cricket field), the incredible things our bowling unit is doing. The rhythm we are bowling with, I can't believe anyone will not enjoy it. So, yes, we are enjoying ourselves a lot and working together as a unit, and you are able to see the results of that.

Kusal Mendis says the Gill and Kohli dropped catches changed the game

I am very disappointed. They bowled really well with seam and swing, and unfortunately we couldn't play to our potential. (Whether bowling first was a mistake?) Uhhh, I can't say like that. The wicket looked a little slow that's why I wanted to bowl first. I think Madushanka bowled really well, but Shubhman's chance and Virat's chance weren't taken and then the game changed a bit. But everyone bowled well in the middle overs. They then bowled really well in the first six overs, I think we need to give credit to their fast bowling unit. (can you turn this around) We have two matches with Bangladesh and New Zealand, so we will come back stronger.
Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka Captain)

What record-breaking night it has been for Mohammed Shami!

Rohit Sharma is really played with his team's clinical approach to all seven games so far!

I'm very happy knowing we have qualified for the semifinals, this was the first goal. But how we approached the seven games has been quite clinical, and a lot of individuals have put in the efforts, put their hands up and stood up. It was a good challenge for us to bat and put runs on the board. That's the kind of template you want to have when you want to score that many runs. Credit to the batters for getting to that total and then the seamers obviously. Shreyas is a very strong lad, strong in his mind, and today he did what he is known for - take on the opposition and the bowlers. He's been working very hard on his game and today we saw what he's capable of. As for Siraj, he's a quality bowler and if he does that it's quite a big difference for us. So very happy with how the squad as performed, even Surya in the last game. To put in a performance like this back to back, against England and now, shows the quality of the seamers. Obviously when there's something for them in the conditions, they are quite lethal. (On trusting KL Rahul on DRS reviews?) I have left it to the bowler and the keeper to make those calls, but yeah I have to find individuals I can trust to make those calls, some may go here and there, today was 50-50 but that happens some times. (On the next game against South Africa) They're playing some good cricket, so are we, so it's going to be a good game.
Rohit Sharma (India Captain)
