The fickle English weather showed its true colours on Thursday, wiping out the entire morning session of the second Test between India and England here at Lord’s with the forecast for the remaining part of the day being gloomy.

The drizzle started about 7 am in the morning and grew in intensity, forcing the officials to call an early lunch. With the covers remaining on, the toss didn’t take place and with rain picking up in intensity around lunch-time, the prospect of an opening day washout seems very likely.

While Londoners will welcome the rain after being roasted by the scorching summer sun over the last couple of months, many fans who braved the wet weather and made the trip to the revered ground would be hoping for some action.

Despite the steady drizzle, many patiently waited in the stands, taking cover under umbrellas.
