South Africa vs Netherlands, World Cup 2023 Highlights: Scott Edwards (78*) leads NED to famous 38-run victory over SASouth Africa won the toss and chose to bowl after the rains delayed the start, reducing the game into a 43-over contest. Netherlands were off to a wobbly start but rallied around their captain Scott Edwards to post 245/8 at the at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. The Dutch then bowled out South Africa for just 207 runs to seal the win.

Well there's some bad news as the covers are brought on due to a spell of rain at Dharamsala. The toss has been delayed until the rains abate.

Covers come off at the HPCA Stadium!

There's some good news from Dharamsala as the covers are being taken off. It's going to be tricky navigating the South Africa pacers though under these conditions and Netherlands will be hoping the toss lands their way.

On the other hand, if the Dutch do win the toss and manage some mayhem earlier on with the ball, then another upset could well be on the cards here.

We have a time update for the toss at Dharamsala!

The toss is scheduled for 2 PM as the players warm-up in the outfield. The conditions still look overcast but the covers are now taken off completely.

We did struggle in the first two games and managed to dig deep. We played good cricket and continued that blueprint. It’s finding confidence witihin each other, a lot of indivduals are doing well at different phases. Two big games and hopefully, the rain stays way. We have spoken about being bold and courageous and we have done that for some time now. The guys at the top are batting beautifully and laying a solid foundation for the midde order. It's a good team environment at the moment and the vibe in the camp is good.

Covers come back on at the HPCA Stadium

The rains are notoriously mischievous in the mountains and just as we were getting ready for the toss they made a comeback to send the players racing back in.

The covers are back on and we await further updates with regards to the game.

Some good news from Dharamsala

The rains have stopped at Dharamsala and the covers are being taken off at the HPCA stadium.

The toss has been scheduled for 2:30 PM now with play set to start at 3 PM.

Toss: South Africa win toss, opt to bowl!

The toss lands in Temba Bavuma's favour and he jumps onto the opportunity to bowl first. It's still quite cloudy in Dharamsala and the South African pacers will be licking their lips at these overcast conditions.

The floodlights are already on inside the stadium which gives an idea of the conditions.

We are gonna have a bowl first. Looking at the overcast conditions, it may swing. It's a small ground so it will be difficult to defend. We have to start off well, be nice and clinical there. I think if we can pick up a few early wickets, we will be able to keep them down to a low total. We can take the confidence, belief is growing among the team. Hopefully, we can keep up the performances. One change - Coetzee comes in for Shamsi.

Well this is something we need to get used to today. The covers are back on at the HPCA stadium as the rains pay another unwanted visit.

The start of play has been delayed until the rains abate and the umpires are happy with the conditions in the outfield.

We have some positive news coming from the HPCA stadium now. Play is set to start at 4 PM.

- It will be a 43-overs-per-side contest

- The first powerplay will be from 1-9 overs

- The second powerplay from 10-35 overs

- The final powerplay will be from 36-43 overs

- Three bowlers can bowl a maximum of 9 overs while two bowlers can bowl 8 overs

What an excellent recovery from Netherlands but it was poor from South Africa who let the game slip away from them.

South Africa had the Dutch on the mat at 82/5 but captain Scott Edwards (78* off 69 balls) played a blinder of an innings to fire his team to a solid total.

Roelof van der Merwe (29 off 19 balls) and Aryan Dutt (23* off 9 balls) provided good support to Edwards as the Dutch post a competitive total of 245/8 in their quota of 43 overs.

South Africa were poor with the ball, evident by the 32 extras they conceded. Remember, Netherlands knocked South Africa out of the previous T20 World Cup, could they pull off a massive upset here?

Netherlands win by 38 runs!

What a victory this is for Netherlands! They beat South Africa at the T20 World Cup and have now done it on the biggest stage in ODIs.

South Africa were poor in all departments but the Dutch were right on their game. Logan van Beek (3/60) leads the wicket-taking charts for Netherlands but Paul van Meekeren (2/40) and Roelof van der Merwe (2/34) both played key roles in defending this total.

The victory means Netherlands pick up their first win of World Cup 2023 and move out of bottom spot on the table. South Africa who could've moved up to top spot with a win are instead handed their first defeat of the tournament but remain in third spot for now.

A true captain's performance from Player of the Match - Scott Edwards! (78* off 69 balls & 3 catches) 

Over the last couple of games too many of our middle order batters were being out before the end of the game, so I wanted to take it deep and hope a couple of guys around me chip in and we are lucky enough to get that score in the end. He's (Roelof van der Merwe) good fun to bat with, he runs hard and hits into some strange areas which is good fun to watch from the other end.it I just got him (Aryan Dutt) on strike and he was clearing the ropes, he's got the talent and it's all there to see tonight. Proud of the group. We came into the tournament where we wanted to have a chance in the semi finals and if you wanna do that you gotta beat teams and South Africa are one of the favourites the way they are playing, so it is a good win for us.
