* South Africa has enforced follow-on on India for the first time in a Test match. So far, the Proteas have asked the opponents to bat again on 16 occasions in their Test cricket history and out of which 13 matches have been won.  Three matches have been drawn.

* India have been asked to follow-on on 23 occasions and its record is: won: 1, Lost 17 and Drawn: 5.  On home soil, India has been asked to bat again in 8 Tests and they have won 1 Test, while losing 4 and drawing 3.

* Dale Steyn, playing in his 37th Test and 6th against India, took his career best haul of 7 for 51 surpassing his previous best of 6 for 49 against New Zealand at Centurion in 2007.  It was his 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his second against India.

* S Badrinath became only the fourth debutant for India to score over 50 runs in an innings against South Africa. Praveen Amre (103 at Durban in 1992) and Virender Sehwag (105 at Bloemfontein in 2001) had scored a century and VVS Laxman scored 51 at Ahmedabad in 1996.

* Steyn’s figures are the second best in India-South Africa Tests. Lance Klusener had captured 8 for 64 at Eden Gardens in 1996-97.

* Steyn became the third bowler for SA to bag seven wickets or more in an innings against India. Allan Donald had captured 7 for 84 in the 1992-93 Port Elizabeth Test

* Sehwag’s 109 is his fourth century against South Africa, emulating Mohammad Azharuddin’s tally of four hundreds — the most hundreds in India-SA Tests.
