A disciplined Madras Engineer Group (MEG) notched a 2-1 win over Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) in the BDFA Super Division League here on Friday.

In a keenly contested affair at the Bangalore Football Stadium, Ayush and Christopher netted for MEG, while an own-goal from Dhanji gave CIL some consolation.

The game began at a frenetic pace with the army side gunning for an early lead but CIL’s defence remained resolute till the 24th minute.

The goal came from a set-piece when Ramu floated in a delightful cross, at pace, from a corner. Ayush managed to shrug off his marker and the defender beat CIL custodian R Abhishek with a powerful header from near the post.

The remainder of the first half turned out to be a strongly-fought midfield battle.
CIL game out all guns blazing in the second period with a barrage of attacks that tested MEG custodian Renju S Mohan.

They eventually found their way back into the game in the 54th minute when R Vijaya slammed a 30-yard free-kick into the box. In an attempt to clear the ball, Dhanji erred and his deflection rolled to the back of the net.

The joy of levelling the scores, though, was short-lived as right at the restart, MEG grabbed the lead again.

Skipper Sukesh Leon made a run on the left sideline before finding Christopher in the six-yard box and the midfielder made no mistake as he tapped the ball in with only the ’keeper to beat.

In an ‘A’ Division tie, Income Tax breezed to a comfortable 3-1 win over Bangalore Eagles.

Shivakumar (24th minute), Syed Ahamed (72nd) and Karthigeyan (80+4) got on the scoresheet for Income Tax, while Sunil (34th) scored for Eagles.
