Hindustan Aeronautics Sports Club’s winger Malemngamba Meitei has signed a deal with Salgaocar SC and will take the field for the Goan giants in the coming season.
Meitei, who played for the HASC as a left-winger last season, has decided to move to Salgaocar after the Bangalore side were relegated from the I-League top division. “I have signed a two-year contract with Salgaocar. When I got an offer from Salgaocar coach Karim (Bencherifa) I didn’t have any second thoughts,” said Meitei.
The 20-year-old from Manipur, who has the ability to play on both wings, will begin training with Salgaocar in July. Salgaocar finished sixth in the I-League with 44 points. “I will be joining the new club in the second week of July. I hope I will be in the starting line up more often,” said Meitei.
Meitei’s contract with Aircraftmen expires on May 31 which means the player will not be available for the HASC’s Super Division matches which is expected to re-start next month.
“HASC’s new technical manager Chandru sir asked me to train with them for couple of days. So probably by the end of this month I will fly back to my home town of Thoubal. I will spend few weeks with my family and friends there before leaving for Goa,” said Meitei.
