Day 2 brought India its first medal at the Paris Games with Manu Bhaker winning bronze in the 10m Air Pistol. India Contingent with P V Sindhu bagged a comfortable win against her Maldivian opponent. Meanwhile, Balraj Panwar finished second in Rowing Repechage and qualified for quarterfinals. In the 10m air rifle event, Ramita has made it to the finals, while Elavenil, who at one point was ranked one on the table, finished tenth and failed to qualify. Adding another feather to the Team India cap, Sreeja Akula qualified for table tennis R32 after emerging victorious in all four matches. In a rather disappointing start for the Indian contingent, none of the two Indian pairs in action qualified for the final medal in mixed 10m air rifle team event. India also failed to progress in the men's 10m air pistol event, but Manu Bhaker qualified for the finals in the women's 10m air pistol event. Meanwhile, ace shuttler Lakshya Sen began his campaign with a promising win. In Hockey, Skipper Harmanpreet Singh saved his best for the last as he scored the winner from the spot a minute from full time to hand India a 3-2 win against New Zealand in their opening Pool B match.

As we move on to day 2 of Paris Games, here are the key events lined up for the day

- After Manu Bhaker's brilliant performance in the qualification round yesterday, she is going to feature in the final of the women's 10m Air Pistol event today.

- Balraj Panwar who placed fourth in rowing yesterday will get a second change as he will compete in the repechage round in the men's singles sculls event.

- Meanwhile, star players P V Sindhu and H S Prannoy get their respective campaigns under way today.

- Apart from this, India will also compete in table tennis round 2, archery quarter finals, and swimming.

Boxing | Nigeria's Ogunsemilore provisionally suspended, says ITA

 Nigerian lightweight boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilore was provisionally suspended on Saturday after she tested positive for a banned substance ahead of her opening fight at the Paris Olympics, the International Testing Agency said.

Ogunsemilore tested positive for furosemide, a diuretic on WADA's prohibited list, in an out-of-competition doping control collected on Thursday.

Unamused Djokovic questions Olympic eligibility rules after 53-minute romp

Matthew Ebden had not expected to last long against Novak Djokovic in the first round of the Olympics on Saturday and he was not wrong - but it left the Serbian wondering why the Australian doubles specialist was competing in the singles.

The 36-year-old Ebden was routed 6-0 6-1 by the top seed in 53 minutes and jokingly offered his racket to a fan inside Court Phillipe Chatrier after losing the first eight games.

He then earned the biggest cheer of the match when he celebrated winning a game at 4-0 down in the second set.

Australia's Jack celebrates gold after being banned from Tokyo

 Being a member of Australia's women's 4x100 metres relay team almost inevitably means winning gold at the Olympics - and Shayna Jack may have thought hers would have come at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Instead, she had to wait three years longer while serving a doping ban and fighting, unsuccessfully, to clear her name before she was able to grab her gold on Saturday when Australia won the event at Paris's La Defense Arena.

India set for double-digit medal haul at Paris Olympics, says Nita Ambani

After the highs of Tokyo Olympics where India secured their best ever medal haul, the country is poised to get medals in double digits in Paris, sports administrator and IOC member Nita Ambani has said.

Talking to PTI in an exclusive interaction on the sidelines of the opening of 'India House' at La Villette, she also said the day India hosts the Olympics is "not far".

"We are going to do very well. Forty seven per cent of our athletes are girls. All for women power and all for our young boys and girls, we are rooting and cheering for them. I hope we can see double digits in medals for the first time. Go India go, make India proud," Nita said.

The Indian women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto began their Paris Olympics campaign with a loss in straight games to South Koreans Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong in their Group C fixture here.

The Indian pair, which put up an inspired show in 2023 to qualify for the Games, went down 18-21 10-21 in a 44-minute match on Saturday.

Boxer Preeti Pawar beats Vietnam's Vo Thi Kim Anh to enter pre-quarterfinals

 Indian boxer Preeti Pawar picked up an unanimous decision win against Vietnam's Vo Thi Kim Anh to enter the women's 54kg category pre-quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics.

The Asian Games bronze medallist, competing in her maiden Olympic Games, opened the proceedings for India in the boxing arena as she won her first round by a 5-0 margin on Saturday night.

The 20-year-old from Haryana, who had been hospitalised for a a few days ahead of the Games due to illness, was unimpressive in the first round as her Vietnamese opponent dictated the proceedings.

But the Indian made amends in the next two rounds, attacking and landing clear blows on her opponent.
