Ravi Kumar lifted a total of 286kg and topped the chart with a 120kg lift in the snatch. He broke the previous record of 165kg set by another SSCB lifter G Vadivelu at the 2002 National Games in Visakhapatnam.
Besides Ravi Kumar, the lone SSCB contender left in the fray, 28-year-old Pasam Rambabu, a gold medalist in the Inter-state weightlifting championship held in Udaipur and CWG trial bronze medalist, finished second with a total lift of 263kg, including 118kg in snatch and 145kg in clean and jerk.
The other competitor Gaurv Dubey of Uttar Pradesh did not turn up for the competition as he failed to meet the required weight.
Earlier, S Deva Kumar of SSCB made a National Games record in the 56kg category, lifting 122 kg in snatch moments after N Sunil Kumar of Tamil Nadu lifted 121kg in the same event yesterday.
Of the total eight participaing teams, hosts Jharkhand did not field its squad in the weight category, while the three other teams did not turn up as majority of their lifters were preparing for next month's senior national championship to be held Bangalore.
In the women's 58kg competition, M Sunibala Devi of Manipur clinched the gold with a total lift of 180kg including snatch 78kg and clean and jerk 102kg.
Jharkhand opened its account through H Poireinganbi Chan who clinched the gold medal with a total lift of 183kg. Chan lifted 83kg in snatch and 100 kg in clean and jerk.
Chan was followed by Reena Kadyan of Haryana, who lifted 79kg in snatch and 96kg in clean and jerk to accumulate a total of 175kg for the second place. G Aruna Rani (AP) lifted 175kg with 79kg in snatch and 96kg in clean and jerk to be content with the bronze medal.
