Aiming to assist para-athletes in their preparation and also provide useful information during the 2016 Rio Olympics, a mobile application “InRio” was launched here on Wednesday.

Conceptualised by 16-year-old Sri Ram School student, Arhan Bagati, the app is designed to cater to the para-athletes needs and provide answers to their queries ranging from medical condition, diet, nutrition and personal information regarding sporting skills.

It will also contain information about the Rio de Janeiro city and landmarks and other places that will benefit in enhancing the athletes experience during the games.

“The idea behind designing this app was two pronged. Firstly, bring Indian athletes together on a common platform where they can learn, share and benefit in their sports. Secondly, empowering them through training and providing them access to fitness centres in their respective areas,” said Bagati.

The trigger for creation of this app was the shoddy management of the 2015 National Para-Athletics Championships held in Ghaziabad, added Bagati. Chaos, lack of coordination and basic facilities to the athletes during games in March was cited as one of the reasons for the suspension of Paralympic Committee of India by International Paralympic Committee.
