La Paz: A Bolivian special anti-drug trafficking force was carrying out an operation on Sunday when cars transporting Evo Morales shot at them, the nation's interior minister said on Monday, denying that there had been a targeted attack on the ex-President.

Morales claims that the government had attempted to assassinate him when bullets struck his car in the early hours of Sunday, amid soaring political tensions in the Andean nation between Morales and former socialist ally President Luis Arce.
