The Foreign affairs adviser of Bangladesh, Md Touhid Hossain, on Tuesday, on being asked if Durga Puja will be celebrated in the country said, "This is quite strange. There could be a fringe that may not like Durga Puja. Durga Puja has been performed in this country for ages and there have been no instances when Durga Puja was not held," news agency ANI reported.

"Certainly, the worshipers who want to perform Durga Puja, they have the opportunity to do so. There should be no doubt about this," he added.

Earlier, amid concerns of possible unrest during Durga puja, Bangladesh's interim government on Sept 8 warned potential troublemakers, pledging tough action against those disrupting communal harmony or targeting places of worship during the Hindu festival.

“If anyone disrupts or harasses people at worship halls, we will not spare them. We will bring them under the law and ensure peace,” Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain said during a visit to the Prematli Gaurang Bari Kalimandir in Godagari at Rajshahi district.
