The men, who were working in an Indian restaurant in Subang Jaya, sought help from Alternative Action Team President B Kalaivanar, local Tamil daily 'Malaysia Nanban' said.

One of the workers S Thirusool, 32, said the men, most of whom were from Ramnad and Trichy districts in southern India, had been forced to work a 14-hour shift without any rest day.

He also alleged that although his Malaysian employer had deducted RM2,200 (Rs 25,000) from their salaries to apply for work permits, he was not sure if their papers were valid.

Thirusool said each time they demanded their salaries, the employer would beat them up, the paper said.
