Prosecutors at the Dubai Court of First Instance accused the 22-year-old man, identified only as S M, of causing permanent disability to 35-year-old countryman R N.

"Yes sir I am guilty. I fought with him and bit his ear," S M  told the court, 'Gulf News' daily said today.

Prosecutors said R N suffered one per cent permanent disability as a result of the attack.
When Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad asked why the men fought, the defendant said: "He is the one, he got me drunk...and then I assaulted him."

R N  said the incident took place around midnight on an August day in the room, the friends of one and a half years shared.

"I was in the room when S M walked into the room and he was drunk. Suddenly he attacked me and bit my ear...I failed to push him away from me because his teeth were strongly clamped together to my ear.

"He only let go after having bit off a piece of my right ear," he was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

R N was rushed to hospital for treatment and his injuries took two weeks to heal.

He disputed the fight was over where they would go for dinner, claiming the pair were "exchanging silly jokes".

The next hearing is on Thursday.
