Kenyan President William Ruto said on Wednesday that he was rejecting the finance bill and was withdrawing it, a day after violent protests broke out across the country over the passing of the bill by parliament.
The bill had sparked nationwide deadly protests.
Police opened fire on crowds who massed around parliament on Tuesday and later broke into parliament buildings, minutes after lawmakers had voted through tax hikes seeking to raise an additional $2.7 billion. The protesters had vowed on Wednesday to keep up their demonstrations against new tax hikes.
Ruto is facing the most serious crisis since coming to power almost two years ago.
