The wealth of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has the potential to make MacKenzie the richest woman in the world if the divorce deal makes Bezos give 34.55% of his wealth.
Bezos, the wealthiest man in the world, is reportedly worth $137 billion. The Washington State's divorce law, where the couple lives, states that the wealth acquired during the marriage has to be split equitably unless there is a prenuptial agreement, reports Forbes.
"Since Amazon was founded a year after the Bezoses were married, MacKenzie could argue that she is entitled to half of Bezos' entire Amazon-based fortune. That means she could get as much as $66 billion based on the value of the company today," says a CNBC report.
The richest woman in the world, Françoise Bettencourt Meyers of L'Oréal, is worth $46.5 bn. For MacKenzie to become the richest women in the world, she has to get $47 bn which is 34.55% of Bezos's wealth.
Bezos owns nearly 80 million shares of Amazon or 16%. It is not clear if MacKenzie would claim 50% of it. The "divorce attorneys say that is highly likely MacKenzie would want the family fortune to continue to grow — and that is tied in large part to Jeff Bezos' control of the company," reports CNBC. The business world is looking at the divorce as it would affect the value of Amazon.
