Yufeng revealed that the pig feed she consumes costs just 3 yuan (40 US cents) a day, and claimed that it is healthier than takeaway food. Quite unsurprisingly, she faced a lot of online flak after this incident, which raised serious health concerns among netizens.

Also referred to as "King Kong Liuke" online, Yufeng is a well-known handicraft influencer in China with as many as 2.8 million followers on popular social media platform Douyin. She graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, which is considered to be one of the top art colleges of the country.

In a video uploaded on October 30, Yufeng stated that it was her goal to live on limited expenses, using as less money as possible. However, she did not explain why she was wanted to do so. She decided that she will be eating pig feed from then on, which was the most recommended way to save money as suggested by Zhihu, a well-known Chinese forum.

"It’s all high-protein, low-fat, and completely natural. Isn’t this healthier than takeaway food?" she said in the video.

As soon as she consumed the pig feed after mixing it with water, she exclaimed, “It’s so salty! A bit sour too! I cannot stand it; I need to drink more water.”

After completing her 'meal', Yufeng claimed that she would follow this diet for a week to see if she could stay healthy on just pig feed and water.

Her video soon went viral on social media, with just Weibo garnering as many as 6.3 million views.

However, this sparked a considerable amount of health concern among the masses as a flurry of comments criticising her actions flooded social media.

One commented, “She is ridiculous. How can food meant for pigs meet food safety standards for humans?”

“During times of famine, pig feed would have been valuable nourishment. But in today’s world of high living standards, why seek out trouble?” questioned another social media user.

Another person remarked, “As a popular influencer, her behaviour can influence others. What if a child tries to imitate her? The consequences could be dire.”
