Japan's parliament has elected Shigeru Ishiba, the newly elected governing party leader, as the country's prime minister on Tuesday, news agency AP reported.
The 67-year-old former defence minister won a close-fought contest to lead the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) last week.
