Zardari, Gilani laud positive talks with India

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and her Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna met in New Delhi Wednesday and agreed on several confidence-building measures and also pledged to continue the dialogue process.

Zardari welcomed the commitment of Pakistan and India to seek early solutions to their outstanding disputes.

"Pakistan welcomes the commitment of the two sides to work together in seeking early and amicable solutions to all issues between the two countries," Zardari said Friday after Khar briefed him about the outcome of her talks in New Delhi with Krishna, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

After the talks, both countries had sought to open a new chapter of "peaceful and cooperative" ties by pledging to intensify counter-terror cooperation and unveiled a host of initiatives to spur trade and travel between the divided halves of Kashmir.

Earlier, Khar had briefed the prime minister about her visit to India and the outcome of the New Delhi talks.

Gilani reiterated that Pakistan desires to have good neighbourly relations with all regional countries, including India, in the larger interest of the people of South Asia, according to a statement issued by his office Friday.

The continuation of the dialogue process with India would help facilitate discussions on all issues of common concern between the two countries, Gilani added.
