<p>The Delhi University admission helpline phones rang off the hook on Wednesday because of parents’ queries. Student volunteers who answered the calls said that most of the inquiries were about online admission forms. <br /><br />University Information Centre (UIC) and Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) are operating these admission helpline services, said the university media coordinator Malay Neerav.<br /><br />The office of DSW said they got over 300 calls on Wednesday. “On the day when admission process began, we received maximum calls. <br /><br />Most the queries are about online registrations,” said a volunteer who attends to admission related queries. <br /><br />Some seventeen student volunteers take turns to answer the calls and run the helpdesk at the DSW office.</p>.<p> One of the frequently asked questions is about unforced errors while filling up the online pre-admission forms. <br /><br />“A few realise that they should have applied for more courses,” said the student volunteer. <br /><br />“In that case, we advice students to fill a new admission form by using a different ID even though it is not allowed.”<br /><br />The volunteers say there are apprehensions about higher cut-offs for popular courses. Those who have passed Uttar Pradesh board exams are also calling in because they are facing difficulty filling up the online admission forms.<br /><br /> “The UP board students study only four subjects. But in the online form it is mandatory to fill in marks of five subjects which students have studied at the Class 12 level,” said another volunteer. <br /><br />One of the DSW officials said students applying for admissions to various courses in DU are not sure whether the ‘Jat category’ is included under the Other Backward Class (OBC) quota. <br /><br />Earlier in March, the National Commission for Backward Classes had included ‘Jats’ in the National Capital Territory of Delhi by amending the central list of OBC. <br /><br />The university said they are also answering email queries. “The email queries are being handled by the UIC,” said Neerav.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the sale of admission forms staggered at various colleges on third day of admission process due to soaring temperature. <br /><br />On Wednesday, the university sold 20,301 forms at 18 counters set up at various colleges. On the first two days, the university had sold over 62,000 forms. <br /><br />The university officials say that more applicants are choosing to fill the forms online. <br /><br />“We have received over one lakh online registrations so far,” said the media coordinator. <br />More than 1,85,000 students seeking admission bought Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) forms or registered online by Wednesday evening, he added. <br /><br />BMS admissions<br /><br />The Delhi University has announced the schedule for admission to the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) course for 2014-15. The varsity will accept online applications from June 7 to 18. <br /><br />The entrance test for 840 seats in BMS will be held on June 26, from 3 pm to 5 pm. <br /><br />This four-year undergraduate course is being offered by six collegse of Delhi University – Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, College of Vocational Studies, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies. <br /><br />While the College of Vocational Studies and Shaheed Sukhdev College has 300 seats each, rest of the colleges offering BMS has 60 seats each. <br /><br />For online registration, the application fee is Rs 500 for General and Other Backward Class category students, while those falling under the Scheduled Cast, Scheduled Tribe or physically handicapped category have to pay a fee of Rs 250. <br /> <br />The results for BMS will be declared on July 4 at 5 pm, the university said. <br /></p>
