Citing reports of ‘love jihad’, leaders of a community have decided not to give cellphones to their girls during school hours besides demanding a complete ban on porn sites.

The leaders of Vaisya community also decided to impart judo-karate training to girls so that they can defend themselves when in trouble. A resolution was adopted unanimously at a meeting of the community leaders in Agra on Sunday.

“We are very much concerned over the reports of love jihad. This problem is even more dangerous than the law and order issue and needs to be tackled immediately,” said Dr Sumant Gupta, the president of All India Vaisya Ekta Parishad, the apex organisation of the community.

“We have asked parents to make sure that girls do not carry cellphones to schools and colleges. The parents must also regularly check their mobile  phones,” Dr Gupta told Deccan Herald over the phone on Monday.

He said the government must immediately ban porn sites.

“Internet and cellphones are spoiling our children. We must put some kind of check on them,” he said.

The leaders also stressed the need to train girls in judo and karate so that they can defend themselves. Gupta said his organisation would soon undertake a countrywide campaign to create awareness on ‘love jihad’.

“We will hold meetings and seminars in different parts of the country in the days to come. We will discuss the issue at length and make people aware,” he said.

Gupta said the community leaders also discussed the matter with Union minister Kalraj Mishra, who was present at the meeting.

“Mishra assured us that he will do whatever is possible,” he said referring to the
demand for banning the porn sites.
