Paris beyond its tourist attractions

Be it the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, a plethora of museums for art connoisseurs, sitting in a cafe having coffee and a croissant or people walking around in Gucci or Prada’s latest, in Paris, one has a lot to do.

A large part of the city, including the River Seine, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many regard it as their favourite destination. Although for actor Purab Kohli, there is nothing like a favourite holiday destination though.

 “I feel one should never have a favourite place as it restricts you to see a new one. So I rather have a place I loved, discovered very little of it and would want to see more. That place is Paris. Beyond its beautiful tourist attractions lies a city where I can spend a lifetime,” says Purab.

Paris is also home to The Louvre — one of the largest and most famous museums, housing many works of art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo statue. “You can bet that if you walk around in any part of Paris blindly, within 500 meters you will find something that will make you stop, take notice and take your breath away. A friend of mine once said that ‘after living in Paris for 11 years, I still discover something new every once in a while’. I couldn’t agree more,” adds Purab.

Travel tips

* Where to stay: Central Paris — In the heart of the Paris shopping district.
* Best time to visit: Visit Paris during late spring or early summer. Avoid visiting in August as the city generally shuts down for the month and most of the shops are closed.
* Shopping: Most of the Parisian stores are closed on Sunday. Department stores are open late on Thursday evenings.
