<p>The faculty at the University of Medical Sciences remain worried about the pay and promotion structure to be implemented with the Delhi government likely to take over the institution soon.<br /><br />The dual administration of the University College of Medical Sciences under Delhi University and the Delhi government-run Guru Teg Bahardur Hospital has been an unresolved issue for years now. Sources in the DU and the UCMS said the state government will soon take over the DU-run UCMS.<br /><br />However, even though the issue nears a settlement, there is no word yet on how the new pay and promotion structure will be implemented, said a member of faculty team.<br /><br />Fifty per cent of the employees of the clinical faculty section are was drawn from the Central Health Services. So there are currently different pay structures and promotional policies for the clinical faculty recruited from the CHS and those under the scheme of the University Grants Commission of the university.</p>.<p>“The issue of how the faculty members will be integrated still looms large. Though the Delhi government is set to take over the college, there is no word yet on what will be the approach adopted by the government. It should clearly define the fate of the existing faculty members,” said a senior faculty member at the UCMS.</p>.<p>“With two types of salary scales and designations, there was already a clash of ego among the faculty members. It is high time that the administration comes out with clearly defined terms,” said the teacher.</p>.<p>Currently, there are over 200 staff. This includes clinical, para-clinical and pre-clinical faculty members.</p>.<p>A section of faculty members is also worried about the retirement benefits, given that no defined integrated method has been decided on yet.</p>.<p>“This slack of decision-making on part of the Delhi government has left several of us worried about the retirement benefits or pension scheme,” said another faculty staff.</p>.<p>UCMS Dean O P Kalra declined to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, an executive council member of DU said the step to transfer the institution out of DU would be unfortunate. <br /><br />“It would be unfortunate if institutions are taken out of the ambit of DU like this. It should be allowed to remain under the DU. However, the teachers’ concerns should be addressed first. The dynamic career advancement policy of the central government should be implemented so that teachers are motivated to join the service,” said Aditya Narayan Mishra, EC member, DU.</p>
