Breast cancer, a costly taboo
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer women across the world, including in India. In fact, breast cancer accounts for a third of all the cancers that affect women in the country. In recent years, it has overtaken cervical cancer in terms of incidence as well as mortality. Oncologists have expressed concern over the fact that Indian women have been found to display more aggressive forms of cancers at relatively younger ages as compared to those in western countries. Unfortunately, the prevalence of taboo and lack of awareness results in late presentation of the disease.
