Kharge proposes ‘Skill Summit’ to align govt policies with industry needs

Bengaluru: Karnataka’s IT/BT minister Priyank Kharge proposed an annual ‘Skills Summit’, aiming to bring together various stakeholders to define skill development strategies for the state. 

Speaking at the Second Karnataka CHRO (chief human resource officers) Roundtable Series, on Tuesday, he said that the objective would be to help establish a blueprint for skills training and align government policies with industry needs. 

It may be recalled that the state government held its first round of discussions with the companies during the previous quarter and intends to do so in the upcoming quarters as well. 

Shedding light on the ‘Nipuna’ programme, the state government’s skilling initiative, Kharge said, “We don't want to be positioned as an investment destination but of a knowledge capital, a skill capital, and how we do this will be dependent on how we will be able to collaborate with not only industry, but also with academia.”

The state government’s IT/BT department also held discussions with more than 50 educational institutions and labs wherein Kharge urged faculties and researchers to participate in the Bangalore Tech Summit to faculty/researchers to participate and use it for industry-academia collaboration.
