Spring mattress manufacturing major Peps Industries has decided to take the company to the next level by becoming a complete bedroom accessories player.

“We have succeeded in giving Indians the international sleep comfort with our spring mattress. Now, we are planning to get into associated products to give total comfort to our customers,” said Peps Industries Managing Director K Madhavan.

Peps Industries, which holds 56% market share in spring mattresses, began operations in 2010. “We want to move into associated products, bed-sheets, fitting sheet to absorb sweat, duvets and large-scale quilts panels, among others,” said Madhavan.

The company produces over 2 lakh mattresses per year, and has three plants, including a mother plant in Coimbatore. “We have invested around Rs 30 to 40 crore, and double that for brand building. We have crossed Rs 225 crore in turnover.”

Banking on its affordable luxury slogan in the sleeping space, the company has brought out five product ranges. It includes Spring Coil range (10 variants starting from Rs 13,000 to Rs 35,000), Peps Restonic range, Grand Palais range, Spine Guard range, and Organica range.

Madhavan said that the company introduced the concept of ‘Great Sleep Stores’ as at its retail outlets in 2012. “We created bedroom ambience in these stores and asked our customers to roll on and feel the mattress. We don’t want them to just press down on the mattress,” he said.

The company has right now 85 outlets, of which 40% are company-owned and the remaining 60% are franchise outlets. “We are planning to reach 100 outlets by the end of this year,” he said.

Peps’ products are available in all major malls as the company operates display centres. Also, the company’s products are available in Hometown and Total, among others.

Recently, the company developed an app that tells what pressure points the mattress should take.

“It will help the user to reduce tossing and turning to a greater extent. It will guide the customer as it is solution-based," said Madhavan.
