The Union Budget 2021-22 has sanctioned funds for the doubling of three key railway lines, although there was no clarity on allocating funds for the suburban rail project, which did not find a mention in the ‘pink book’.

Most of the funds sanctioned for the doubling work have been allocated through extra-budgetary resources. The Byappanahalli-Hosur doubling has received Rs 80 crore, followed by the quadrupling of the Cantonment-Whitefield section (Rs 78 crore) and doubling of Yeshwantpur-Channasandra (Rs 71 crore).

A senior railway official said the suburban rail project will not appear in the zonal pink book.

“Due to reorganisation of the pink book content, metro transport projects are not appearing in it,” the official said.
