<p>Jnanapith awardee Girish Karnad was chosen for the Puttanna Kanagal award and veteran actor B Sarojadevi bagged the Dr Rajkumar award, meant for lifetime contribution to cinema.<br /><br />“Kabaddi”, a film based on the rural sport Kabaddi, also bagged the best dialogue award. The award carries Rs one lakh in cash and 50 grams of gold each for the director and producer of the film.<br /><br />“Josh”, the movie with a message for youth and their careers, won the second best film award. It carries Rs 75,000 in cash and 100 gm silver each for director and producer.<br />The third best film award went to “Shankara Punyakoti”, dealing with the importance of cows. The award carries Rs 50,000 in cash and 100 gm silver each for director and producer.<br /><br />The best film with a social concern went to “Mukhaputa”, based on HIV-infected children and produced and directed by Roopa Aiyer. A K Shivaraju’s “Chaitanya” bagged the best children’s film award. The awards carry Rs 50,000 in cash and 50 gm of gold each for producers and Rs 50,000 in cash and 100 gm silver for the directors.<br /><br />The lifetime awardees will get Rs two lakh in cash and those selected for individual laurels will get Rs 20,000 in cash and 100 gm silver. The awards would be presented in January, 2011, Secretary for Information Ramesh Zalki said.<br /><br />The awardees were chosen by a jury headed by veteran director Bhargava from the 73 films shortlisted. The panel was initially a nine-member team, but the job was finally done by a seven-member team.<br /><br />Two members— director D Rajendra Babu and Banandur Kempaiah—remained absent for the screenings and jury meetings. While Kempaiah remained absent due to work-related concerns, Bhargava said Rajendra Babu skipped the committee meetings without citing any reason. <br /><br />“It seems he skipped the meetings anticipating that he would be considered for Puttanna Kanagal award.
