CBI special court rejects plea to cancel Jagan's bail

A CBI special court on Friday rejected the CBI’s plea, seeking cancellation of bail granted to YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets (DA) case.

Citing an interview of former Chief Secretary Ramakanth Reddy, telecast in Sakshi television owned by Jaganmohan Reddy the CBI alleged that the accused was influencing witnesses and tampering with evidence.

In his counter Jaganmohan Reddy submitted that he is not involved in the day to day operations of the channel and the interview is the subject matter of the concerned reporter who has presented the interview in Sakshi.

The Court which has opined that an officer of Ramakanth Reddy’s stature who is a witness in the case should have resisted from making certain observations, about the DA case. The court further adjourned the hearing on the case to May 9.

Providing further relief to Jagan, the court allowed him to leave the country along with his family for a fortnight, anytime from 15 May to 15 June. YSR Congress cadre which has gathered for a prayer meeting at the Lotus Pond residence on Friday prior to CBI Court’s verdict expressed happiness over the judgment.

However the CBI counsel has hinted that the agency might appeal to High Court against the special court’s verdict.

It was on 23 September 2013 after almost sixteen months in Jail Jaganmohan Reddy, got conditional bail in the disproportionate assets case. He was arrested on 27, May 2012 by CBI after prolonged questioning at the lake View Guest House here and remanded to custody in the Chanchalguda prison.
