Delivering the presidential address in the textbook releasing programme organised by the Mangalore University Prasarnga and Degree Kannada Lecturers Association ‘Vikasa,’ he said that more books will be published in future with a view to make Prasarnga an active entity. “Already the initiative to publish quality books has been started,” he said and added that three of the researches have been published recently under Mangala Samshodhana Malike and more number of M. Phil and PhD quality thesis will be published soon.
He also asked the interested writers to come forward to translate scientific books into Kannada which will be later published by Prasarnga.
Litterateur Prof Amrutha Someshwara who released 11 first year degree textbooks published by Prasarnga congratulated the effort of Prasarnga to come out with the quality books for the students.
Meanwhile, he also suggested to publish the works of senior writers who have not received enough exposure in spite of their hard labour in the field of literature.
Mangalore University Registrar Dr K Chinnappa Gowda opined that all the books which were released reflect the cultural diversity of coastal region. “The books published by Prasarnga were edited by a team of 35 editors who are the Kannada lecturers from different colleges. So we would expect no words of complaint from any of the teaching faculty as for as the content of the textbooks are concerned, as it is the board of editors who hold the mass responsibility for it,” he said.
Kannada Text Books Managing Editor Dr Sathyanarayana Mallipatna in his introductory speech informed that separate books for BCA and BBM students will be distributed this year and added that 180 writers have contributed their write ups for the publication of 11 books.
All the editors were felicitated on the occasion and three other books authored by four lecturers were also released.
