New Delhi: BJP’s Sirsa candidate for the upcoming Haryana Assembly Elections Rohtash Jangra has withdrawn his nomination after the party decided to support Gopal Kanda, who is contesting from the Haryana Lokhit Party.
The announcement for the withdrawal was made by BJP Haryana leader Ashok Tanwar, who said that Jangra has withdrawn his papers and the BJP will now extend its support to Kanda. “The BJP has decided to support Gopal Kanda since he had extended his support to the BJP during the Lok Sabha polls,” Tanwar said.
Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini had declared that the BJP will ally with Kanda’s party, but the BJP had released Jangra’s name in the third list. A day before the names were announced, Kanda joined hands with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Soon after the announcement, INLD secretary general Abhay Chautala said that they will now reconsider their alliance with the HLP. “If the BJP has supported Gopal Kanda and he has accepted their support, we will have to discuss the matter internally to decide on the future course of action,” Chautala said in a press conference.
The BJP will now be contesting 89 of the 90 Assembly seats in the state. Similarly, the Congress, too, will be contesting on as many seats – it has left the Bhiwani seat for CPI(M).
