New Delhi: After assuming office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi first signed the disbursal of another installment for the PM Kisan Scheme. He took over the affairs for a third consecutive term a day after the swearing-in ceremony, where 72 ministers took oath in the Union Council of Ministers.

The government, in a release said that, the first file he signed authorised the release of the 17th instalment of PM Kisan Nidhi. “This will benefits 9.3 crore farmers and distribute around Rs 20,000 crores,” the PIB said in a release.

“Ours is a Government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come,” the PIB said, quoting the PM.

During the first day of the third term, Modi also addressed the Prime Minister’s Office.

“Ten years ago, there was an idea that the PMO is a big power centre, and I was not born to run after power or worry about acquiring it. For me, the PMO becoming a ‘shakti kendra’ or power centre is not the way. From 2014, you would have noticed that we have sought to make this a catalyst agent which brings light to various departments,” Modi told officers of the PMO.

“In a way, this is like electricity, and the PMO should stand for people’s service. P in PMO should stand for ‘people’, this should not become Modi’s PMO,” the prime minister further said.
