Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024: 'Uddhav’s condition similar to Sholay's Asrani,' Bawankule takes jibe at Shiv Sena (UBT) chief

Mumbai: Taking a dig at Shiv Sena (UBT) head Uddhav Thackeray, state BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday said that the former Maharashtra chief minister’s condition is like that of actor Asrani in the blockbuster movie Sholay.

Bawankule was referring to the character of jailer that the comedian played in the Bollywood movie and his iconic 'aadhe idhar jao…aadhe udhar jao' dialogue.

“Thackeray’s condition is like that of Asrani of Sholay…hope you all have seen Sholay…aadhe idhar jao…aadhe udhar jao…baki mere peeche aao (Half of you go this way, other half go that way and the rest follow me). Just wait, 18 of the 20 MLAs would go away and only two would remain behind him,” Bawankule said referring to Thackeray’s son Aaditya Thackeray and the latter’s maternal cousin Varun Sardesai.

Shiv Sena, NCP are slaves of Modi-Shah: Raut

Amid the delay in government formation, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut said that the position of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP are like slaves of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.

“They have become sub-companies of the BJP,” Raut said. "These two parties are slaves of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah…they would decide who the CM of Maharashtra would be,” he said.

On being asked who could be the CM, he said that he feels BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis would get the post. “Currently, the BJP has a majority, just short of a few seats, but yes…if they don't have a majority then they can break Eknath Shinde's and Ajit Pawar's parties for the majority,” he said.
