Lahore Confidential’, by Kunal Kohli, tries to be a romantic thriller but fails to be one.
.
The film tells the tale of RAW agent Ananya (Richa Chadha) and how her personal and professional lives get affected once she is posted in Pakistan.
.
Ananya is said to be ‘too emotional’ to take up spying assignments, has a deep love for Urdu poetry but the same aspects add up and make her perfect ‘for the job’, assigned by boss Yukti (Karishma Tanna).
.
She ‘fatefully’ meets Rauf (Arunoday Singh) and falls in love with him. The story has its share of romantic moments but somehow the viewer won’t be blinded enough by them to ignore its predictability.
.
Richa is just about convincing. Her character doesn’t really ask much of what she is capable of doing on screen. She comes out more as dim-witted than gullible, a traits fit for an agent. This is a letdown, especially by an actor famous for a project like ‘Masaan’.
.
There are candlelight dinners and intimate moments which makes Arunoday’s chemistry with Richa on-screen look realistic. But it isn’t enough to keep us glued to the film.
.
Karishma’s effective acting keeps the story moving.
.
Overall, ‘Lahore Confidential’ comes across as an unimpressive espionage tale.
.
The background music of the film is decent. The film needed a tighter screenplay to make an impact.
