Biden extends deepest condolences over deadly landslides in Kerala

At least 177 people have died and over 200 others injured in the massive landslides that hit Kerala's Wayanad district on Tuesday, with the numbers expected to rise as rescuers unearth debris.

Washington: New Delhi: United States President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden sent condolences to the families of the deceased in the landslides at Wayanad in Kerala.

“Jill and I extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by the deadly landslides in the state of Kerala in India,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House.

The US president lauded the rescue operations in Wayanad.

“Our prayers are with the victims of this tragic event, and we mourn with the families who have lost loved ones. We commend the bravery of the Indian service members and first responders supporting the complex recovery effort,” added Biden.

He also said that his wife and he would continue to hold the people of India in thoughts during this difficult time.
