<p>“Congress ko kattan maaf nahin kiya ja sakta” (The congress can never be forgiven), AIMPLB spokesman and assistant general secretary A R Quereshi told reporters in response to a query after a meeting of the board’s executive committee here. <br /><br />Qureshi said former prime minister Narsimha Rao was “equally responsible” for the demolition of the mosque. “His (Rao) role might have been limited but he could have acted before the demolition and imposed the president’s rule in UP,” Qureshi added.<br />In reply to another question, he said that being leader of the BJP, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee could not escape his responsibility. “The commission should have sent him notice and included his name among the the accused persons,” he added.<br /><br />Maintenance rights<br /><br />On the recent court decision granting maintenance rights to the divorced Muslim women, he said that the Board’s position was clear. “It is against giving maintenance beyond the period of Iddat,” he said. <br /><br />The spokesman said the committee, in its meeting, endorsed the findings of the Liberhan Commission regarding conspiracy to demolish the “historic” Babri Masjid and in holding the RSS, VHP, BJP, Bajarang Dal and the Shiv Sena responsible for the commissioning of this heinous crime as factually correct and sound.<br /><br />The board demanded that the Centre should instruct the CBI to also include the charge of criminal conspiracy in the demolition cases being heard at the Rae Bareli court. “We also demand that an FIR should be filed against those persons who have been left out. <br />The Liberhan Commission has found 68 people responsible but cases have been registered against 49 people only,” he said.<br /><br />The committee has also demanded that the demolition cases be heard on a day-to-day basis. On the action taken report, the board said the Prevention of Communal Violence Bill would not fulfil the purpose as it would provide wider opportunities to the executive and the police to perpetrate atrocities on the muslims and weaker sections.<br /><br />He also said the committee voiced its opposition to the formation of the Central Madrasa Board. “The government should respect the rights and liberties given to the minorities in the constitution,” he said. <br /></p>
