'Kalka Mail jolted severely before mishap'

“At times there arise some problems in the system that may cause mishaps,” said a senior northern railway official here. He, however, said the real cause could be known only after the inquiry. According to the sources, a goods train had passed on the same track barely minutes before the arrival of the ill-fated Kalka Mail.

The goods train was taken from the main track to the loop line by changing its track. The track was changed again to enable Kalka Mail to pass through the main track. Railway officials at Malwa railway station said the train started to wobble the moment it reached this particular “Point” on the track.

Some officials, quoting the driver of the train, said he had experienced severe jolt just near the “point”. The officials however rejected excessive speed as a reason for the mishap.
