New Delhi: BJP Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut on Thursday met party president JP Nadda days after the party warned her from making comments. Her comments on the farmers protest landed her in trouble with the party.

Ranaut’s comments on the farmers had led to protests and condemnation from farmers’ groups as well as the Opposition. The party soon distanced themselves from her comments and said that her opinions were her own and that she should be cautious when speaking on behalf of the party.

Sources in the BJP said that in the meeting, Nadda asked her to be careful without getting the party in trouble. “Her comments had also attracted attention in the past, leading to trouble for the party. Her recent movie on the Emergency, too, has angered the Sikh community. So, it was a simple organisational meet,” a party leader said.

On the same day, however, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann stoked another controversy when he said that Kangana accused the farmers of rapes as she has experience in it.

Responding to a query from the press on Ranaut’s comments that the farmers’ protest witnessed rapes, Mann said: “You can ask her (Kangana Ranaut) how rape happens so that people can be explained how rape happens. She has a lot of experience of rape,” he was quoted as saying.

His comments have drawn sharp criticism. Ranaut took to social media to condemn him. “It seems this country will never stop trivialising rape, today this senior politician compared getting raped to riding a bicycle,” she posted.
