4% reservation for Muslims in contracts is unconstitutional: Dakshina Kannada MP

Mangaluru: “BJP will strongly oppose the Karnataka government for reserving four per cent of government contracts for Muslims. The decision divides society based on caste and religion. We will fight both inside and outside Parliament,” said Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta.

He stated that Dr B R Ambedkar had introduced reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in society.

However, Siddaramaiah, under the guise of AHINDA politics, has betrayed backward communities in Karnataka to repay his debt to organisations like PFI and SDPI. Therefore, BJP strongly condemns the unconstitutional and anti-religious decision of the Congress government to grant 4 per cent reservation to Muslims in contracts.

The party will continue its fight until this unconstitutional resolution is withdrawn, said Capt Chowta.

A writ petition will soon be filed in the High Court seeking to annul this decision by the Siddaramaiah government, which aims to divide society based on religious votes through special reservations for Muslims.

Through legal means, the BJP is determined to overturn the government's attempt to provide a 4 per cent reservation for Muslims. Additionally, in the budget, the Chief Minister announced Rs 1,000 crore action plan under the "Minority Colonies Development Fund."

"This move by Siddaramaiah is against the principles of Ambedkar and the Constitution itself. By doing so, Siddaramaiah is attempting to socially segregate the Muslim community, and the BJP strongly condemns it,“ he added.

“There is no provision in our country to grant reservations based on religion. The Supreme Court has already issued multiple orders on this matter. During the drafting of the Constitution, Dr Ambedkar himself opposed religion-based reservations. In various states, similar attempts to provide religion-based reservations have been struck down by the courts. Despite this, the Siddaramaiah government is engaging in vote-bank politics by granting a 4 per cent reservation to Muslims. Our fight will continue until this unconstitutional decision is revoked,” said MP Capt. Chowta.
