<p>The students of Alva’s Education Foundation, representing Mangalore University and the state, triumphed against all odds and created new records at the 64th National Pre-university Ball Badminton Championship 2019 held at Nellur and Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Alva’s students, who represented the state’s team in the championship, secured the champions’ spot after a 12-year break.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Five students of the Alva’s Pre-university College represented state girls’ team while the state boys’ team, which included five students from Alva’s, obtained the third place in the event.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Ten girls from Alva’s education institutions, who represented All-India Inter-University Women Ball Badminton Championship, organised by Krishna University, Machilipatnam, were instrumental in Mangalore University getting the fifth consecutive<br />title.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Mangalore University entered the league stage for the 15th time, while crowning championship for eight times. Captain of the Mangalore University Women’s Badminton team and Star of India awardee Jayalakshmi of Alva’s College won the player of tournament award for her outstanding performance.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Lauding the performances of the students, Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Foundation, said the achievers are studying in the institution under special adoption scheme and are striving to revive the Ball Badminton sport in the state.</p>
