<p>The bandh call given by pro Kannada organisations, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, JD(S) and others organisations evoked a mixed response in Kodagu, the birth place of river Cauvery, on Saturday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>There was good response for the bandh in Madikeri, Somwarpet, Shanivarasanthe, Virajpet and mixed response in Napoklu, Moornadu, Siddapura and other areas. <br /><br />The district administration had declared holidays for schools and colleges. The government offices too wore a deserted look. Private buses remained off the road in Madikeri. <br /><br />The members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Kumar Shetty bana) and JD(S) staged a protest, at Madikeri General Thimmaiah Circle and shouted slogans against the Centre. <br /><br />Speaking to presspersons, MLC M C Nanaiah said “in the backdrop of scanty rainfall, the state is reeling under drought situation. In such a scenario, how to release water to Tamil Nadu?” he asked. <br /><br />“If the State had received bountiful of rainfall, water could have been released to Tamil Nadu,” he said. <br /><br />Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar should have apprised the situation in Karnataka to the Centre. Unfortunately, he walked out of the meeting. <br /><br />The Cauvery Monitoring Committee should prevail upon the CRA to withdraw the decision. It should submit a report by studying the situation in two states. <br /><br />Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president Shivakumar said that water is supplied to several villages through tankers. <br /><br />Unique protest<br /><br />C B Vijaykumar and his team staged an unique protest by playing tabala, at Ganapathy temple premises in Kushalnagar. The artistes sang Kannada folk songs between 8 am and 5 pm.</p>
