The High Court of Karnataka on Monday directed three former mayors to approach Lokayukta seeking probe into multi-crore rupee fake bills scam involving civic agencies.

P R Ramesh, J Huchchappa and M Ramachandrappa had approached the court seeking formation of an investigation committee or CBI probe into the irregularities allegedly committed in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, Bangalore Development Authority, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited during implementation of civic works in the year 2009.

The petitioners had claimed that misappropriation in constituencies such as Bommanahalli, Dasarahalli, Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly constituencies ran into crores of rupees and only a Lokayukta probe could unearth the truth. They had stated that the works completed by BDA in places like Bagalgunte and Bhuvaneshwarinagar were executed again by BBMP and bills were claimed for such projects.

The vigilance committee of the Palike which looked into irregularities in Gandhinagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeshwarinagar constituencies, had found discrepancies in execution of the works.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice S N Satyanarayana observed that the petitioners have already filed a complaint with the Lokayukta over the issue and directed them to pursue the matter with the Lokayukta.

Adjourned

The High Court has adjourned the hearing of the suo motu petition for proper implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act after the State government sought more time to conduct a meeting.

The State government counsel sought more time to convene a meeting as directed by the High Court stating that the chief secretary, who is supposed to conduct the meeting, is busy with the legislature session in Belgaum and the meeting will be held after December 18.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice S N Satyanarayana adjourned the matter.
