BBMP introduces correction module for khata applications starting November 18

Bengaluru: Is your name spelled incorrectly in the draft e-khata? Or do you need to revise the building measurement?

The BBMP, which has uploaded draft e-khatas for 22 lakh properties on its portal, will introduce a correction module starting Monday. Citizens will be able to flag errors but in person, and assistant revenue officers (AROs) have been authorised to address these requests.

BBMP’s Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil outlined several common issues faced by property owners. One frequent grievance is the misspelling of property owners’ names in the draft e-khata. This can be due to either incorrect declarations or mistakes made by the BBMP staff.

"We have also encountered name mismatches between the sale deed and khata. For instance, Sridevi and Shreedevi may appear the same in Kannada, but differ in English,” Moudgil explained. Property owners can upload their sale deeds to request corrections in such cases.

Other issues include incorrect measurements of properties, such as the size being listed in square metres instead of square feet, or vice versa. The correction module will allow property owners to address these discrepancies. There is also an option to enter GPS coordinates and photos of the property to support the corrections.

Moudgil further clarified that the e-khata system will also cover properties that have been inherited and do not have a sale deed. “Some properties don’t have a khata, as the civic body only began issuing them about 20 years ago. We will ensure no one is left out,” he said.

Help desks

To assist citizens, the BBMP will increase the number of help desks from 13 to 30, as they are currently receiving around 1,000 calls a day. These helpdesks aim to provide e-khata services on the same day for properties being registered.

Property owners can also appeal decisions made by AROs to higher authorities, such as the deputy commissioner (revenue) or the zonal commissioner. Also, citizens can file objections against the final e-khata issuance online.

BangaloreOne centres charge a fee of Rs 45, with an additional Rs 5 per page for scanning documents. The BBMP charges Rs 125 for issuing the final e-khata.
